PLEASE NOTE: These courses cannot be applied to the degree or certificate.
VCOM certificated graduates possess advanced technical skills that help them to handle advanced-level design problems. both print and multimedia certificates programs require at least one full semester of internship work, although many vcom students do more. Prior to the internship, all intermediate- and advanced-level VCOM courses (56-66) include at least one real-world client experience for all students contracted through the LPC Design Shop, a business run for and by the VCOM student program.
When presented with real world projects and clients, VCOM students further develop research and analytical skills, broaden their awareness of a design aesthetic, develop business judgement, and hone communication skills with their peers, instructors and mentors. visual communications interns, working both off and on campus, experience a wide variety of real-world situations such as:
participating in client presentations and peer brainstorming sessions; working in cross-discipline teams including marketers and coders; working directly with a variety of clients and client needs; learning how to determine and meet deadlines while keeping within the restrictions of a budget. aa-bound and skills development students are welcome to request design shop work if they have mastered design and technical skills adequate to the task. more about design shop
